Spotlight Artist: Amanda Ross-McDonald
Amanda Ross-McDonald starting showing up for herself…
You know those days when you snap at your beloved or kid about something inconsequential like not throwing out the toilet paper roll… And wish you hadn't?
Let’s be real; we’ve all done it!
In this overly busy world, it's too easy to ignore the calling of our deepest desires and grow frustrated with it all.
Artist Amanda Ross-McDonald knew this well. Years of highly demanding work as a make-up artist in her beloved film industry exhausted her.
She felt a nagging voice every day telling her to make art, but she didn't have a studio or time to be in one.
Her dissatisfaction spilled over into her personal life, and she found herself in the midst of angry outbursts with her husband. She found it harder and harder to repress the full expression of her authentic self.
It was time to break up with her job and get good at listening to herself.
She joined the Become Internally Known community and began to do just that. And it paid off in spades.
Today she works in a dedicated studio for her artwork and completes new paintings every week, a total of 23 so far! She began a new series of “Soul Portraits” that helped her connect with her viewers more intimately and is selling them in exhibitions. She earned R5500 this month alone on commissions and is building an Instagram following.
And instead of taking away from her family life, showing up for herself has allowed her relationships to deepen with others.
“I now see myself as powerful. I see that I am capable of anything I put my mind and heart to. With effort and passion and drive, I know I can achieve anything and I no longer feel small……. I used to feel like a little kid, Now I feel like a confident adult woman. And I love it.” - Amanda Ross-McDonald
