Spotlight Artist: Sarah-Kay Franck

It took a global pandemic for Sarah-Kay to see what mattered…

Sometimes, in our busy lives, while taking care of the kids and doing what we can to make money, we prioritize what is urgent… Instead of what's most important.

But they are not the same thing.

Artist Sarah-Kay Franck’s experience of the COVID-19 lockdowns brought this home.

In previous years, she struggled to spend a weekend in the studio every few months or during school holidays. The lockdown provided an opportunity to reflect on this.

She realized that being an artist was foundational to who she is… And decided to make it a more pressing matter.

Seven months into the Become Internationally Known program, Sarah-Kay now works six hours a day, four days a week in her studio! She’s made 5 new pieces, embraced her love of portraiture… And confidently calls herself an artist (something she could not have done not that long ago!)

Consistently prioritizing her relationship with making art means showing up to her studio, regardless of her mood or set of challenges that day.

Showing up in the studio is also showing up for herself. In this busy world, Sarah-Kay knows that getting clear on our priorities… And what really matters… Is everything.
