Spotlight Artist: Anna-Christina De La Iglesia

This can be a tricky one…

Figuring out how to create a cohesive body of work, especially when you work intuitively… And each new piece brings you in unexpected directions.

When American artist Anna-Christina De La Iglesia signed up for the Become Internationally Known program… just six months ago, she had a beautiful studio to work in, and was producing work…

But she didn’t want to just produce a bunch of work...

She wanted to create a cohesive body of art that related to memories from her childhood.

...She wanted to create a body of work that she would feel proud and confident to show.

...A body of work that she could speak about... And be ready to exhibit.

Which is exactly what she did!

She went from not knowing how to do this… To producing 10 new paintings as part of her ‘Map of My Childhood’ series.

How does she feel now?

“I feel confident and happy. I love the work I’ve been doing, and I love to show it to people. When they see it, I can see from their reactions that I’ve created something that touches them on an emotional level.”

Not only that, she started working on a novel…

And sent a piece to a group show in Texas…

And has an exhibition booked for this fall!

All that because she got clear about what she wanted… And made a DECISION to create it.

That’s where it started (because that’s where any act of creation must start)... With a decision to figure it out and do what it takes.

From there, she got the right supplies and set her studio up in a way that works for her.

She set mini-bench marks for herself… And then, in her own words, “she kept herself sane.”

She got enough sleep, ate well and exercised so that her physical and mental energy was in the right place.

Anna-Christina made a decision… And backed it up with action.

Was it always easy?

Nope!

Was the path always clear?

No!

Of course, it wasn’t… Our dreams and desires require us to get out of our comfort zones and do new things.

By paying close attention to what worked for her… And showing up to do it, she created ten new paintings that she is not only ready to show, she is confident and excited to show them!

Now, when she shows up at an exhibition, she knows what to say… And what her work is all about.

So good, right?
